What is the Swiss Water Decaffeination Process?

Swiss Water Processed decaf coffees are the highest quality and best tasting decafs that you will ever experience. We promise.

The Swiss Water Process is the process of decaffeinating specialty-grade coffee beans using 100% chemical-free methods. Only water, temperature, and time are used to gently remove caffeine, while preserving all the coffee’s original characteristics. This means you are getting the very best cup of decaf, free of chemicals or residual processing flavors.

Other methods of decaffeinating coffee can leave residual harsh chemicals and change the natural flavors of the coffee beans. For example, common methods of decaffeinating coffee often use Methylene Chloride (can be toxic), Ethyl Acetate Alcohol (can change the beans' flavor) or a Carbon Dioxide byproduct.

As a specialty-grade, craft coffee roaster, we do not want to alter the natural flavors of the beans' origin or do anything to the beans that comprises it's high quality and the care and sustainability that was used to grow the crop.
Fact or fiction: All decaf contains some level of caffeine.
While it's true that no decaffeination process can remove all caffeine from a coffee bean, coffee decaffeinated with the Swiss Water Process leaves our facility 99.9% caffeine free—which is certainly not enough residual caffeine to keep you up at night.
